Timelessness at a Christmas Pantomime

I’m invited to a pantomime for charity, that’s to say all the money generated through ticket sales go to a deserving charity. My work colleague and friend is performing so I am asked to come along for the sake of doing a good deed but I agree more to support her endeavours and admirable spirit.

The event is held in a community hall with approximately 130 people in attendance, sitting in rows facing the stage. The curtains open and the performance begins with 5 people on stage waiting for the music to start. As the musical opening act begins 4 people move to the right and 1 to the left, he realises his mistake and catches up to the others slightly out of time and clearly a terrible dancer. It was at this moment I understand I’ve made a terrible mistake and more than taking my £10 there’s a risk of being scarred by the event. I make a mental note to be more careful agreeing to such things in future.

The terrible dancer is actually an excellent singer, an operatic tenor with a brilliantly powerful, clear singing voice that easily fills the hall. I can see why he’s in the group now and understand that sometimes you make do with what you have available.

I begin to gaze, a meditation practice used to disengage the mind and I connect with the energy of the room, the feeling tones of the event which gives more information from behind the face value scenes.

An older slim lady takes to the microphone, she was obviously another opera singer, one of two on the team, she begins her recital and builds her rendition injecting more and more until she hits a high note and holds it for what seems an age, this is her moment and she nails it.

It was during her solo that I see a conscious energy field with no particular form surrounding the stage and taking extra interest in the stage and the performance, it was the opera singer conducting her life review. She was both singing on the stage and now passed over looking back at her life at the same time. Her passed over self took a real interest in the physical stage, the form, the walls, the floor she was less interested in the singing and more the actual stage, there is no physical stage no physical anything in her afterlife and she marvelled at how this produced a type of experience, her physical experience, her life.

After hitting her high note for the final time, the physical singer on stage was flushed with adrenaline and excitement, she accepted the applause as she had done many times before whilst her non physical life review self marvelled continuously at the stage, the backdrop the edifice upon which life experience is played out, life is literally a stage and everyone has a part.
